Watch: Metallica Tear Through Sabbath Classics at Ozzy’s Farewell Show

Metallica delivered a powerful six-song set at Black Sabbath’s “Back To The Beginning” charity event on Saturday, July 5, in Birmingham.

The Bay Area legends kicked off their performance with a tribute to Sabbath, opening with “Hole In The Sky” from Sabotage. They then launched into two of their own hits, “Creeping Death” and “For Whom The Bell Tolls,” before returning to Sabbath’s catalogue with a rare cover of “Johnny Blade” from the Never Say Die! album. Metallica closed out their set with the thrash classics “Battery” and “Master of Puppets.”

Their full setlist for the night was:

  1. Hole In The Sky (Black Sabbath cover)
  2. Creeping Death
  3. For Whom The Bell Tolls
  4. Johnny Blade (Black Sabbath cover)
  5. Battery
  6. Master of Puppets

The “Back To The Beginning” show marked an emotional milestone, as Ozzy Osbourne performed live for the last time. The 76-year-old metal icon, who battles Parkinson’s disease, played five solo songs before reuniting with Black Sabbath members Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward to perform four of the band’s classic tracks. More than 40,000 fans attended the historic event, which also featured Slayer, Pantera, Lamb of God, and Anthrax. Proceeds from the night will support Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorn Children’s Hospice.
