The heartfelt message addressed his recent family losses. It revealed that his cancer, initially diagnosed last September, has been deemed incurable and untreatable as of April 2024.
with you, as you’ve all been so kind to me these past few weeks – this time has been a whirlwind of loss, and reflection for me and my family,” Sadler said.
The singer reflected on the profound impact of losing his father and, recently, his sister Dianne to cancer.
“On June 29, just before my 14th birthday many years ago, I lost my (our) father – an event that has shaped me in ways that I’m only now beginning to understand, as a parent myself,” he continued. “Tragically, on July 1st, we lost my (our) dear sister Dianne when she succumbed after an excruciating battle with cancer.”
Sadler described the devastating toll cancer has taken on his family, affecting three of five siblings.
“This past year has been especially challenging for my family,” he said. “On my side, cancer struck 3 of the 5 siblings, in fact, I found out about my brother’s Leukemia, within a day of my shock diagnosis last September.”
The musician then revealed the terminal nature of his own condition.
“As for me, I learned in April, just before boarding a cruise, that my cancer is incurable and untreatable,” Sadler said. “Though I’m currently stable and otherwise doing well, this news has turned my life toward a more introspective and purposeful path.”
Sadler expressed determination to continue his musical work and maintain his commitments to fans and family despite the grim prognosis. He concluded by thanking supporters for their continued love and kindness during this difficult time.
This announcement marks a particularly challenging period for the veteran musician. His career with Saga spans decades of progressive rock excellence.

Fabrications HQ reported that his distinctive vocal style is considered central to the band’s signature sound and identity, aside from a brief hiatus between 2007 and 2011 when he temporarily stepped away from the group.

This extensive discography demonstrates Sadler’s long-standing dedication to his craft, making his current health battle all the more poignant for longtime fans.
Sadler’s influence extends beyond just his vocal contributions to the band. Classic Rock Here and Now highlighted that he has been instrumental in shaping Saga’s musical direction and maintaining their distinctive progressive rock sound that has earned them a devoted international following.
The timing of this announcement underscores the resilience Sadler has shown throughout his career, both personally and professionally. He continues to face his diagnosis with courage while remaining committed to his musical legacy and family responsibilities.
