Rick Allen Hints at New Project Def Leppard Quietly Working On

Rick Allen, the drummer of legendary rock band Def Leppard, recently shared insights into the band’s upcoming work during an interview on The Sessions Panel.

Allen revealed that the band has been actively working on new music. Though details remain limited at this stage, he discussed the progress made so far and the band’s confidence in the material they’ve created.

“Lots of new music for Def Leppard coming,” Allen said. “I can’t really talk about it that much, but the songs that I’ve been involved with, the songs that I’ve helped with recording.”

According to Allen, the project is still in its refinement phase. Several production elements still require attention.

“There’s still quite a lot to do — details, some overdubs, that kind of thing,” he explained. “But the music is strong. We are fans of it, so we figure if we are fans of it, then other people are gonna love it.”

Allen’s comments align with broader plans the band has announced for rolling out their new material. The Rock Revival reports that Def Leppard’s 13th studio album is expected to arrive in late 2026 or early 2027. The band plans to release new material strategically before the full album drops, using a “drip feeding” approach to build anticipation among fans.

Guitarist Vivian Campbell revealed that the band currently has approximately 17 to 18 songs “in development” with more to come, as noted by Def Leppard UK. This substantial catalog of material demonstrates the band’s deliberate approach to crafting their next era of music.

Frontman Joe Elliott confirmed that a lead single will likely be released in February 2025 ahead of their Las Vegas residency. Another single is planned for their British tour in June. This strategic rollout demonstrates the band’s commitment to maintaining momentum with their fanbase throughout 2025 and beyond.

The band completed recording work in San Juan, Puerto Rico, according to Def Leppard UK. They have returned to live performances and maintain an extensive 2025 touring schedule, balancing their recording efforts with their commitment to their audience.
