Radiohead song ‘Let Down’ becomes their fourth Hot 100 hit

Beloved alt-rock giants Radiohead have officially scored their fourth Hot 100 hit on the charts with the song ‘Let Down’ from OK Computer.

Best known for being a beloved deep cut on the band’s seminal 1997 masterpiece, the song has seen a major resurgence thanks to it becoming a major TikTok trend. While the track was released as a single in 1997, it didn’t make it anywhere near the Hot 100, but based on its use in shows such as The Bear, it has found its way to number 91 on the charts 28 years after its release.

The song has become a major hit on social media, with fans usually playing it over different heartbreaking cinematic moments. The trend has also continued with various choral covers of the band’s major hit.

Aside from being one of the darlings of modern rock, the band have never had a major radio hit since their 1993 song ‘Creep’, which only managed to reach number 34 on the charts. While the band had been considered a one-hit wonder by many, their sophomore release, The Bends, gave them another placement on the Hot 100, with the song ‘High and Dry’ making it to number 78.

While the band continued to grow in popularity without any major hits off of classic albums like OK Computer and Kid A, their only resurgence on the charts came with the release of their 2007 record, In Rainbows. Having already shifted the idea of what an album release could be by allowing a pay-what-you-want policy around the album, the group got their second-highest chart hit with the song ‘Nude’, peaking at number 37.

In the midst of their sudden resurgence in popularity, the band have not released an album of new material since 2016’s A Moon Shaped Pool. Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood have been hard at work in the art-rock project, The Smile. The band have given fans more material in the form of compilation albums over the past few years.

Aside from the remixed version of OK Computer with a remastered version of ‘Let Down’, the band have released a reimagining of both Kid A and Amnesiac in 2021 and announced the release of a live version of their 2003 album, Hail to the Thief. As of yet, there has been no word as to whether there is a new studio album on the horizon.
