After the insensitive jokes Becky Lynch made towards Ozzy Osbourne, The Prince of Darkness’s daughter, Kelly Osbourne has offered a rebuttal to the wrestler’s comments.
The WWE star first came under fire during WWE Raw on August 25th, where she made mention of Ozzy Osbourne’s hometown of Birmingham. Her below-the-belt remark about the singer claimed that he was the “only good thing” about the city, which was greeted with boos from the crowd.
Now taking to social media, Kelly Osbourne has shown her support for both her father and his home, saying, “[Becky Lynch] you are a disrespectful dirtbag! Birmingham would not piss on you if you were on fire. #birminghamforever. Shame on the WWE for allowing such things to be said about my father and his home!!!”
While Lynch was known as a ‘heel’ in the world of WWE and was meant to play up to a villainous persona, the public felt that her comments had been one step over the line. Ozzy Osbourne had been spending his final days in Los Angeles, but he had returned to his home during the final month of his life to bring an end to Black Sabbath for the Back to the Beginning concerts.
The heavy metal singer was also an active associate in the world of WWE for years. Ozzy Osbourne had appeared at various Wrestlemania events during his lifetime, making his onscreen debut in 1986 and eventually being inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2021. He and his wife Sharon Osbourne had also hosted an episode of WWE Raw in 2009.
The joke Lynch made also comes after Kelly Osbourne released a statement regarding her father’s passing. Despite saying that the grief has been coming to her in waves, she continues to stand with all of the fans that loved her father as well, saying that “knowing my family are not alone in our pain makes a difference.”
Kelly Osbourne’s grief is also present in many of the biggest names in metal, each of whom gave a loving tribute to one of the genre’s godfathers. Since his passing, tributes have poured in from artists such as Metallica, and Pantera have announced that their tour will be put on hold so that Zakk Wylde, Osbourne’s former guitarist, had proper time to grieve.
Lynch has yet to release an apology for her comments.
