Joe Walsh Clears the Air on The Eagles’ Future

Joe Walsh recently commented on The Eagles’ plans following their residency at the Sphere. He addressed the band’s trajectory in a statement shared on USA Today.

Walsh discussed what lies ahead for the iconic band after their 2026 Sphere dates, which are scheduled for January through March. The guitarist emphasized that while the band will maintain a presence at the venue, they are already considering new directions.

“It’s also time to think of life after the Sphere,” Walsh said. “We’ll always be in residence there, but maybe next summer we can do something different. We might have to reprogram completely up here to not play the Sphere.”

Despite the shift in focus, Walsh made clear that The Eagles’ creative journey is far from over.

“But we’re not done yet,” he added.

Walsh’s comments come as The Eagles continue their groundbreaking residency at the Las Vegas Sphere. The residency has become one of the most successful concert series in recent years. Relix reported that the band has extended their residency through February 2026. Confirmed dates include January 23 & 24, January 30 & 31, February 20 & 21, and February 27 & 28. The residency began in September 2024 and will total 52 shows by its conclusion, marking a significant milestone for the legendary rock band.

The timing of this extended residency is particularly meaningful. It coincides with the 50th anniversary of The Eagles’ first compilation album, “Eagles: Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975.” Consequence noted that the band features Walsh alongside Don Henley, Timothy B. Schmit, Vince Gill, and Deacon Frey. The immersive concerts at the state-of-the-art venue have been celebrated by fans as a “once-in-a-lifetime” event. The Sphere’s cutting-edge visuals and sound technology create an unparalleled concert experience.

Looking beyond February 2026, the landscape for The Eagles remains uncertain. AXS reported that there are currently no announced plans for a traditional Eagles tour after the Sphere residency concludes. This suggests the band may be shifting its focus toward special events and residencies rather than large-scale touring. The strategic move reflects both the success of the Sphere format and the practical advantages it offers for the band’s members.

Walsh’s recent statements indicate that The Eagles are actively planning their next chapter. They are maintaining flexibility about their long-term commitment to the Las Vegas venue. The guitarist’s emphasis that “we’re not done yet” suggests the band remains creatively energized and committed to delivering new experiences for their fans. Even as they explore what comes after their historic Sphere residency concludes, The Eagles continue to chart an ambitious path forward.
