Google has honoured the late Ozzy Osbourne by adapting its search engine in tribute to the rock icon.
Last week, the Osbourne family confirmed his passing, aged 76, writing in a statement: “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning.”
Since then, the musical world has united in grief and honoured the legacy of the Black Sabbath legend. Hours after his death, Coldplay paid tribute by covering ‘Changes’, Johnny Depp joined Alice Cooper to perform ‘Paranoid’ at London’s O2 Arena on July 25th, and Oasis dedicated ‘Rock N Roll Star’ to Osbourne at Wembley Stadium.
Now, upon searching ‘Ozzy Osbourne’ into Google, the top of the screen currently reads, “Thanks for the mayhem, Prince Of Darkness”. The words move across the screen sandwiched between two train emojis, referencing his classic track, ‘Crazy Train’.
It comes after earlier today (July 29th), Osbourne’s family unveiled plans for his funeral. While it will be a private service, his hearse will travel through Birmingham to Black Sabbath on Broad Street before the ceremony on July 30th to give fans one final chance to say their goodbyes.
The Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Zafar Iqbal, said in a statement: “We’re going to pay our last respects and homage to one of the greatest living legends of Birmingham.”
He also described the Black Sabbath frontman as a “son of Birmingham” and thanked him for his contribution to the city’s cultural history, adding, “He put Birmingham on the map. He put Aston on the map.”
Iqbal also confirmed Osbourne’s family “generously offered to pay to enable this to happen and support the city is giving him the farewell he deserves”. The funeral cortege will arrive on Broad Street at 1pm with the road set to be closed from 7am.
Osbourne passed away at his family home in Buckinghamshire on July 22nd. No cause of death has been revealed; however, it has been confirmed that air ambulance paramedics arrived at the scene and spent two hours trying to save his life.
