David Gilmour is set to release a concert film and live album from the tour for his most recent record, Luck and Strange.
The Pink Floyd guitarist toured for 23 dates after the album was released in September last year, and has now immortalised the experience in the upcoming Live at the Circus Maximus, Rome film, documenting his six nights performing in the historic venue in the Italian capital city.
Gilmour was the first artist to perform at the ancient Roman amphitheatre in 2016, and his return last year marked an extremely special moment. Hence, it was the perfect place to film the concert. The movie will be released in cinemas for a limited run before being made available for purchase on DVD.
Moreover, paired with this Gilmour will also release an album of the Luck and Strange Concerts, featuring 23 tracks recorded from across the tour, mixed with blended takes from the most recent studio record.
As well as this, it will also contain Gilmour’s reimagined cuts of a selection of Pink Floyd classics, including ‘Sorrow’, ‘High Hopes’, ‘Breathe (In The Air)’, ‘Time’, ‘Wish You Were Here’, and ‘Comfortably Numb’.
The 79-year-old classic rock guitarist has proven that he is still as prolific as ever despite having spent almost six decades in the business. The original version of Luck and Strange garnered him his third solo UK number one album upon its release last year.
It followed his four previous solo records, beginning with his eponymous debut in 1978, About Face in 1984, On an Island released in 2006, and Rattle That Lock, which came out back in 2015.
In a four-star review of Luck and Strange, Far Out wrote: “The album is tortuous both sonically and emotionally, with moments of brightness, darkness, beauty and fear. As we make our way through this series of emotional undulations, however, Samson and Gilmour present omnipresent themes of ageing and mortality. Gilmour’s glory years with Pink Floyd are many years behind him now, but in this balanced, familial album, he proves he’s still got it.”
Gilmour’s Live at the Circus Maximus, Rome film will be released on September 17th, while the DVD and live album will be available to buy from October 17th.
