The weekend of July 4 was a time of celebration for many across the United States. However, those in the Texas Hill Country faced devastating floods. Homes, cars, and businesses washed away as torrents of rain overfilled rivers. To date, authorities have confirmed that more than 130 people have lost their lives in the floods. Now, a pair of country stars and Texas natives are planning benefit events to assist those impacted by the deadly floods.
Earlier this week, Texas native and country legend George Strait announced that he and some of his talented friends will host a benefit concert and dinner to assist with flood relief. The event, titled Strait to the Heart: A Benefit for Hill Country Flood Victims, will take place on Sunday, July 27. Proceeds from ticket sales and other donations will go to the Vaqueros del Mar Texas Flood Relief Fund. It will take place at Estancia at Thunder Valley indoor arena in Boerne, Texas.
“The destruction and loss in our community from the recent flood is hard to wrap your head around,” Strait shared in a statement. “Our hearts and prayers are with you all. The goal with this event is to raise meaningful, immediate support that can be put directly into the hands of flood victims without delay, while also honoring the first responders that work tirelessly to save lives.”
The evening will include performances from Strait, William Beckman, Wade Bowen, Dean Dillon, Randy Houser, Riley Green, Jamey Johnson, Kyle Park, Hudson Westbrook, and Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel. Those interested in getting tickets to the intimate event can email VaquerosDM@gmail.com.
Miranda Lambert Is Planning a Benefit for Texas Flood Victims
Taste of Country reports that Texas native and country superstar Miranda Lambert is also planning a benefit event for the victims of the deadly floods. She revealed tentative plans during a call-in interview with Highway Mornings on SiriusXM.
“I feel like I’m on the verge of tears constantly,” she said, speaking to host Cody Alan about the floods. “I feel helpless like everybody else,” she admitted. “But I know more than anything that Texans help Texans,” she added.
Lambert plans to stand by what she said. During her conversation with Alan, she revealed that she is currently planning a benefit show to raise money for those impacted by the floods. “I’m working on more things to come. Hopefully next week I’ll announce some things I’m trying to do to help,” she said.
“We’re working on putting some stuff together. I can’t talk about it yet because it’s literally just happening,” she explained.
