Billy Joel forced to close bike shop following health update

Billy Joel has confirmed that he will be closing his motorcycle shop, 20th Century Cycles. The news comes following Joel’s brain disorder diagnosis.

Joel confirmed earlier in 2025 that he had been diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH). As a result, he was forced to cancel all of his upcoming tour dates, which included a headline show in the UK.

As well as cancelling tour dates, Billy Joel has also announced that he will be closing his beloved motorcycle shop. The iconic 20th Century Cycles will be closing its doors for good in September, and Joel will be auctioning off his impressive collection of bikes later in 2025.

Claire Mercuri, an official spokesperson on behalf of Joel, confirmed via The Independent that closing the shop is a direct result of Joel’s NPH.

Joel opened 20th Century Cycles in 2010 as a passion project. Joel has always had a huge love of classic motorcycles and was keen on creating a space where he could maintain, repair and customise his bikes. The shop was also a museum where fans could visit and peruse Joel’s prized collection of bikes for free.

There is yet to be a confirmed date when Joel will auction off his bikes to the public, as the shop is currently being closed down, with various bikes being moved out. That being said, fans can buy parts from different bikes right now, which are all listed on Joel’s Instagram page.

Joel said on a podcast recently that the disorder, “Sounds a lot worse than what I’m feeling,” he confirmed that he currently feels “fine” but said his “balance sucks.” Joel confirmed it was like being stuck on a boat and that the NPH was “Not fixed,” but “Being worked on.”

This is a developing story.
