Yungblud Admits Steven Tyler’s Condition Is His Biggest Fear Ever

Yungblud recently opened up about his collaboration with Steven Tyler and Joe Perry in an interview shared on Audacy. He addressed the legendary Aerosmith frontman’s vocal challenges.

The artist’s connection with the rock icons began when Joe Perry reached out about his recent song “Hello Heaven, Hello.” Perry encouraged him to connect with Steven Tyler during a meeting in Sarasota, Florida. The band was considering returning to the studio at that time.

Yungblud said, “With it all, it was crazy, because Joe will hit me up, about ‘Hello Heaven, Hello’ [recent Yungblud song]. He was a fan of it. ‘Oh, it’s cool to see rock and roll back in some kind of new iteration’, you know? I mean, he says he loves the middle section when it gets rocking, so… Holy shit. Joe Perry just sent me an email, that’s wild! [He wrote], ‘Let’s get together.’ So I flew down to Sarasota, Florida, to see him for a couple beers, and he said, ‘Let’s get together. Let me give you Steven’s email. And I emailed them both.’”

The singer continued, “I was like, ‘Let’s go get dinner. Let’s go get a drink. Let’s go get a vibe. Let’s figure it out.’ Because I knew they were talking about getting back into the studio together, because Steven had his voice operation and he was healing. But obviously, the psychological effect of falling on a barrier and crushing your larynx is crazy for a singer.”

Yungblud reflected on the psychological toll that Tyler’s recent larynx injury has taken on the singer. “When you get given a voice, and to have it taken away is the most traumatic thing in the world,” Yungblud said. “For example, say I go on stage one night and I’ve got a hoarse voice. It’s my biggest fear ever. You go walk out to 20,000 people not knowing if you’re gonna be able to hit the notes.”

Steven Tyler suffered a laryngeal fracture during a performance in 2023, which caused significant vocal cord damage and bleeding. Fox News reports that this injury is exceptionally rare and involves the voice box, which is essential for producing vocal sound.

Doctors have confirmed that full recovery to his previous singing ability is unlikely. UConn Health notes that the injury requires ongoing care. While his speaking voice may normalize, hitting the same singing notes with prior amplitude is expected to be very difficult, especially at his age of 75.

The impact on Aerosmith’s future has been substantial. ABC News reported that Aerosmith initially postponed their farewell “Peace Out” tour and later announced they would retire from touring altogether due to Tyler’s voice limitations. Steven Tyler has expressed heartbreak but remains committed to recovery and performing again only if possible.

Despite intense efforts to rehabilitate his voice through months of treatment and voice rest, the fracture cannot fully heal to allow him to sing as before. I Love Bob FM revealed that reports in early 2025 indicate some vocal healing progress. However, no change in the band’s touring plans have been made because of the ongoing voice limitations. The artist emphasized the unique challenge that vocal issues present for performers, particularly given Tyler’s decades-long career as one of rock’s most iconic voices.
