Paul McCartney believes Wings have finally “found its moment”

Paul McCartney has discussed the resurgence of Wings and said the band have finally “found its moment”.

McCartney is reflecting on the chapter of his life he spent with Wings following the collapse of The Beatles ahead of the release of the new book, Wings: The Story Of A Band On The Run, via Penguin.

Additionally, the band’s career has also been documented in the new film, Man on the Run, by Morgan Neville, which premiered at Telluride Film Festival in August and will land on Prime Video in August.

Now, in a new interview with the BBC, McCartney shared his joy at the renewed interest in his post-Beatles band, stating, “Suddenly Wings has found its moment. There’s a generational shift at play and it’s like being transported back on a magic carpet

He also looked back on his fun-filled memories of his time in Wings which he described as “a complete blank canvas” in comparison to how he was used to working with The Fab Four.

McCartney wistfully remembered, “We would go on the road with no plans, no hotels booked, no gigs lined up and we thought the only place we might find a captive audience was at a university – a completely off-the-wall idea but I’m glad we did it.”

When the good times rolled with Wings and they topped the charts, McCartney noted there was a “particular kind of excitement in achieving that goal” due to the hard yards they had put in playing smaller venues.

The singer-songwriter then said, “In recent years, I noticed I’d be asked just as many questions about Wings in interviews as I would about The Beatles. People would tell me that the first thing they heard of mine was Band On The Run or Jet, or that their favourite album was a Wings one.”

This has also bled into his live shows, sharing, “The reception for these songs in our live shows often takes me by surprise too.”

In a recently released extract from Wings: The Story Of A Band On The Run, McCartney addressed the farcical rumours that he had died following the demise of The Beatles, solemnly admitting, “I’m beginning to think that the rumours were more accurate than one might have thought at the time. In so many ways, I was dead.”
