Radio host and close friend of Ace Frehley, Eddie Trunk, recently shared details about Ace’s funeral and commented on plans for a fan tribute concert honoring the late KISS legend. He shared an update on Instagram.
Trunk addressed the ongoing mourning of Frehley’s passing and revealed that he has been exploring the possibility of organizing a tribute show. He attended both the memorial service and funeral, which were small, private events. The three surviving members of KISS—Gene, Paul, and Peter—attended alongside close family and friends.
“It’s been a crazy week or two, as you guys all know. Today, Ace Frehley was laid to rest in a cemetery in the Bronx, NY, where he grew up and very close to where his parents were buried, which was his wish,” Trunk said. “Obviously, the rock world continues to mourn the passing of Ace. I know I certainly do.”
Trunk emphasized that any tribute concert would require the family’s blessing before moving forward. He has already discussed the idea with Frehley’s family members.
“I have explored and already explored the idea of doing some sort of fan tribute concert for Ace. I think he’d loved that. I think he deserves that,” Trunk said. “I would never even attempt to do something like that without the approval of his family. And I can tell you that today, after the services, I did speak with his daughter, his niece, and his wife, and discussed the idea, and they fully endorsed it and fully gave me the thumbs up to explore it at some point and to do it.”
Trunk stressed that the project remains in its earliest stages. He emphasized the need for time before any concrete plans materialize.
“I have stress that this is extremely preliminary. Not yet. Wa,y way way too soon. We need some stuff to settle. We need everybody to kind of digest and exhale a little bit,” he continued. “But it is something I feel is important and has to happen, and should happen, and hopefully will happen. But again, it’s a little bit down the line. Certainly won’t be this year.”
The passing of Ace Frehley marks the end of an era for rock music. Wikipedia documents that Frehley was the original lead guitarist of KISS. He left an indelible mark on rock history through his innovative guitar work and distinctive stage presence. His contributions to the band helped define the sound and visual spectacle that made KISS one of the most iconic rock bands of all time.
The tribute concert concept reflects the deep respect Frehley commanded within the music industry. Alternative Nation reported that the private funeral service brought together the surviving original KISS members and numerous musicians and industry figures. These attendees were influenced by Frehley’s groundbreaking work. This gathering underscored the widespread impact of his legacy across generations of rock musicians.
Eddie Trunk’s commitment to honoring Frehley through a tribute concert aligns with a broader tradition in the rock community. Eddie Trunk’s official website notes that memorial concerts have become an important way for the rock community to celebrate the lives and contributions of legendary musicians. Such events serve as a means for fans to pay their respects. They also provide opportunities for fellow musicians to share their own stories of how Frehley influenced their careers.
The timing of the tribute concert remains deliberately open-ended. Trunk emphasized the need for the rock community and Frehley’s family to process their grief before moving forward with planning. KISS FAQ indicates that no concrete dates or venue information has been announced for the tribute event. Organizers are prioritizing respect for the family’s wishes and allowing adequate time for proper planning. The project is expected to develop gradually, with more details emerging as the planning process advances in the coming months.
