Ringo Starr has shared his perspective on the lasting Beatles legacy, expressing his enthusiasm that their music is constantly listened to by every generation.
In a new interview with the Financial Times, Starr was happy to reflect on the popularity of the Beatles, which persists to this day. He even gave a definitive reason for their unwavering popularity.
“Every generation, if they’re into music, listens to us,” Ringo shared. “And you know, we’re still selling records. We do billions of streams a year! It’s far out. I know why. The music was great, the songs were great, the attitude was great.”
He then looked to the future, shouting out his original co-creator, Paul McCartney. He wrote, “Paul and I are still doing what we were doing then. We’re on the road, we’re making records.”
During the interview, he also ruminated on the success of Abbey Road, commenting, “I love the story of Abbey Road because we’re all sat around in a circle talking about how we’ve got this album, let’s go to India and do it, let’s go to Everest, let’s go to the Pyramids — or let’s just walk across the road. And that’s just what we did! A lot of times The Beatles just sat around talking about expansive things, but ah, let’s just go across the zebra crossing. And it worked out really well.”
The drummer recently confirmed that he has finished work on a new country album, which is expected to arrive in 2026. “I’ve just finished my part in another country album,” the Beatle said, before stating, “I love country music.”
Starr also recently commented about Sam Mendes’ forthcoming set of biopics on The Beatles, which will see Barry Keoghan play him. The duo have already met, but the Irish actor won’t be in attendance for Starr’s forthcoming tour, the drummer shared, “He’s very busy being me right now.”
All four of The Beatles biopics are set for release in 2027.
