Legendary rock band The Rolling Stones have been back in the studio working on a new album, Keith Richards’ son has confirmed.
The Rolling Stones’ last offering, Hackney Diamonds, arrived in 2023. It topped the charts in the United Kingdom and was their first album of original material in 18 years.
In June, it was reported that Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, and Steve Jordan have been busy working on a follow-up to 2023’s Hackney Diamonds since April. It was claimed they had made 13 songs for the record at Metropolis Studios in West London after shelving plans to hit the road this summer.
Now, in a recently published interview with Record Collector, Marlon Richards has confirmed this to be true, stating, (via NME): “They’re in town right now, recording.”
Marlon, who gave the interview in May, continued, “They’re in Chiswick or somewhere like that; I think they’re nearly done. They still maintain these ridiculous hours: after lunch until, like, two in the morning. I’d rather be somewhere else at that time of night! Unless you’re in it, it’s pretty boring.” Notably, Metropolis Studios is located in Chiswick.
When asked about their upcoming project, Marlon said, “I guess an album – they have enough left over from the last one.”
He also claimed that winning a Grammy for ‘Best Rock Album’ in 2025 for Hackney Diamonds was a motivating factor to get back in the studio, adding, “They gave them a Grammy, so now they’re all hyped up on that: ‘Oh, yeah – we can do another one like that! We’ve got more like that if you want…’. I think they’re doing the follow-up.”
Another secret revealed by Marlon was The Rolling Stones’ plan to return to the road in Europe, sharing, “I think they’re planning a tour of Europe”. It was previously said they were due to hit the road in 2025, including dates at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which never materialised.
Ahead of the release of Hackney Diamonds, Jagger told the New York Times in 2023 that the wheels were already turning on their next album, stating, “I don’t think it’s the last Rolling Stones album. We’ve got almost three-quarters through the next one.”
