Sammy Hagar announces release of new live album ‘The Residency’

Sammy Hagar has officially announced the release of a new live album, The Residency, with his Best of Both Worlds band.

The album, scheduled for release on October 10th, 2025, spans some of Hagar’s biggest hits from throughout his career. While there are multiple covers of his classic Van Halen material, there are also pieces from his solo years included such as ‘There’s Only One Way to Rock’ and ‘Eagles Fly’.

In the lead-up to the release, Hagar has released the live version of the Van Halen favourite ‘Summer Nights’. Hagar also remarked on the genesis of the song and why it was perfect for his tour, saying, “Eddie played me that guitar riff and I just started singing ‘summer nights and my radio,’ and the rest of the lyrics just came out like a river of consciousness. I don’t think there’s a better theme song for a beautiful summer night, so it had to be the first track this summer from the live album.”

The shows, taken from Hagar’s previous tour, were held at Dolby Live at Park MGM and capped off Hagar’s latest tour with his band, including Van Halen alum Michael Anthony and guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani, who has been working with ‘The Red Rocker’ since his days with the supergroup, Chickenfoot.

Alongside his classics, the collection does include one song dating all the way back to Hagar’s days in his first band, Montrose. Taken from their debut album and Hagar’s first official release, ‘Rock Candy’ is the one holdover all the way from the beginning, which caught the ear of producer Ted Templeman when he was producing the first incarnation of Van Halen.

The announcement of the live album also comes after Hagar talked about his plans to walk away from touring altogether. After releasing the new song ‘Encore, Thank You, Goodnight’, the rock legend said that he sought to move away from the traditional multiple-city tour, hoping that his residency in Las Vegas would be a springboard for different musical projects.

That doesn’t mean that Hagar is done performing elsewhere, though. While he is not discounting “one-off” performances, he was also on hand in Birmingham in July for the Back to the Beginning concerts for Black Sabbath, where he paid tribute to Ozzy Osbourne with a cover of the song ‘Flying High Again’.
