Metal band Megadeth have unveiled their plans for one last album and a huge farewell tour to seal the deal on a career spanning over four decades.
Frontman Dave Mustaine released a statement explaining the band’s decision to end their career. He wrote, “There are so many musicians who have come to the end of their career, whether accidental or intentional.”
Mustaine continued, “Most of them don’t get to go out on their own terms on top, and that’s where I’m at in my life right now. I have traveled the world and have made millions upon millions of fans and the hardest part of all of this is saying goodbye to them.”
He added, “If there was ever a perfect time for us to put out a new album, it’s now. If there was ever a perfect time to tour the world, it’s now. This is also a perfect time for us to tell you that it’s our last studio album. We’ve made a lot of friends over the years and I hope to see all of you on our global farewell tour. Don’t be mad, don’t be sad, be happy for us all, come celebrate with me these next few years.”
“This will be our last broadcast,” a broadcaster cried in a video message on social media posted by Megadeth, before the band’s mascot, Vic Rattlehead, was brought to life.
“For over four decades, I’ve been chained in silence. But the end demands my voice. It is confirmed that the next Megadeth album will be the last,” the mascot said.
Due for release early next year, Megadeth’s 17th full-length will follow up on 2022’s The Sick, the Dying… and the Dead!
Dates for Megadeth’s farewell tour are expected to be announced in the near future.
