Metallica are set to swap stadiums for a tiny 250-capacity gig in New York, in celebration of the launch of their new channel on SiriusXM.
The band will be launching a new channel from August 29th called Maximum Metallica, showcasing the best of the group on a constant stream. Subsequently, in honour of this, they will also be playing a special intimate show to mark the occasion, the night before the channel hits the air.
Metallica’s drummer Lars Ulrich unveiled the news during an interview with Howard Stern on August 6th, revealing that the band will be playing at the Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett, New York, on August 28th, with only 250 tickets available for the unmissable gig.
Fans can enter the ballot to be in with the chance to win the prized tickets via SiriusXM’s website, with the station also running a competition for your travel expenses and accommodation to be covered as well.
It comes as the band is right in the very crux of their M72 world tour. Following the intimate gig in New York, the tour will pick up again on November 1st for an Australian leg, beginning at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
Metallica are then set to continue their huge tour into next year, hitting a number of European cities over the course of the summer of 2026, including dates in the UK and Ireland where they will visit Dublin, Glasgow, Cardiff, and London.
Despite the announcement of the new venture via SiriusXM, it comes as speculation mounts that flagship presenter Stern could be leaving the station after almost 20 years, as his contract runs out at the end of 2025 and he reportedly eyes up retirement. However, he is yet to comment on the reports.
