Rod Stewart has outlined his conditions for a potential Faces reunion. He set a clear ultimatum for his former bandmate Ronnie Wood in an interview with Mojo.
Stewart revealed his specific demands for making it happen when asked directly about the possibility of a proper Faces reunion.
“I can’t sing up there anymore so they’d have to drop the keys, and they can,” Stewart said. “They just get lazy. And Ronnie would have to sit there and swear to me the Stones were finished and no longer doing any business, that’s it, all over.”
Stewart elaborated on his proposed timeline and the scheduling conflicts that have prevented the reunion from materializing.
“I would say, ‘Right then, I’ll give it a year,’” he continued. “What happens now is that I wait for him and he says he’s got to do something [with the Stones] and then he waits for me and I say I’ve got to do something. No one’s taking any time out. I’m busy for the rest of this year and into next. I don’t know what the Stones are doing apart from playing Glastonbury.”
The comments highlight the ongoing scheduling challenges between Stewart’s solo career and Wood’s commitments with the Rolling Stones.
Stewart’s ultimatum comes at a time when fans may actually witness a partial reunion sooner than expected. This adds new context to his demands for Wood’s full commitment.
KDSJ 980 reported that Stewart has confirmed that he and Ronnie Wood will reunite on stage for the 2025 Glastonbury Festival, where he will headline the Legends slot. This marks a significant moment as it would be their first live reunion since they last performed together at the BRIT Awards in 2020.
The band’s history of scheduling conflicts has been a persistent issue. Recent developments suggest momentum is building. Smooth Radio revealed that Faces are reportedly working on new music, with drummer Kenney Jones hinting that the band has “about 11 tracks” ready for release. This revelation fuels speculation about a future full reunion and possibly a new album.
Stewart announced his retirement from large-scale solo tours later this year. He has not ruled out participating in a Faces reunion tour. Pollstar noted that the Glastonbury performance represents a testing ground for the band’s chemistry after years of separate commitments.
These developments add fresh context to Stewart’s ultimatum. They indicate that while a full Faces reunion with Ronnie Wood hinges on the Rolling Stones’ status, fans can anticipate at least a partial reunion and new music in the near future.
