Bruce Springsteen will receive a prestigious honor from the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles this fall. The Boss will be presented with the inaugural Legacy Award at the museum’s fifth annual fundraising gala on October 18.
According to a press release, the Legacy Award “honors an artist whose body of work has inspired generations of storytellers and deeply influenced our culture.” Springsteen also will perform at the event. The Academy Museum Gala raise money to support the institution’s exhibitions, education initiatives, and public programs, which include screenings, grade school and high school programs, and campaigns and projects serving the public and the local Los Angeles-area community.
Also being honored with other awards at the gala are actress Penélope Cruz, comedian/actor Bowen Yang, and director Walter Salles.
“The Academy Museum Gala is a special evening dedicated to bringing together individuals to champion the celebration, advancement, and preservation of cinema,” Amy Homma, the museum’s director and president, said in a statement. “As we gather for a fifth year, we are honored to recognize Penélope Cruz, Walter Salles, Bruce Springsteen, and Bowen Yang—storytellers whose influence has been proven to resonate in film and beyond.”
Among the celebrities serving as co-chairs for the 2025 gala are Common, Viola Davis, Robert Downey Jr., Jennifer Hudson, and director Jon M. Chu.
Springsteen Will Receive the Award Shortly Before His New Biopic Premieres
Six days after Bruce is presented with the Legacy Award, on October 24, the new biopic Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere will premiere in theaters.
As previously reported, the film, which features The Bear star Jeremy Allen White as Springsteen, is based on musician-turned-author Warren Zanes’ 2023 non-fiction novel Deliver Me from Nowhere. The book and movie focus on the making of Bruce’s acclaimed, stripped-down 1982 album Nebraska.
The film was directed by Scott Cooper, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Zanes.
Besides White, Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere features Jeremy Strong as Bruce’s longtime manager Jon Landau; Stephen Graham as Springsteen’s father, Doug; Odessa Young as Bruce’s love interest, Faye; and Gaby Hoffman as the Boss’ mom, Adele.
Springsteen and Landau were both involved in the production of the movie.
